Travel & Holiday Vaccinations

🌍 Travel Clinic Information

✈️ Book Early

Please request your Travel Clinic appointment at least 8 weeks before you travel. The Practice Nurse will need to know:

  • Which countries you’re visiting
  • Specific areas within those countries
  • How long you’ll be staying

This helps us determine which vaccinations you may need.

📝 How to Request

Start by filling out the Travel Risk Assessment Form at the bottom of this page. A Practice Nurse will review this and the surgery will contact you to arrange any necessary vaccinations.

Note: Not all travel vaccines are available on the NHS. See below for details.

💉 Vaccines Available on the NHS

Vaccine
Hepatitis A (Hepatitis B is not covered by the NHS for travel)
Typhoid
Diphtheria
Tetanus
Polio

🦟 Malaria & Mosquito Advice

Malaria prevention medication is widely available at community pharmacies

🏥 Private Travel Clinics

If we can’t offer an appointment in time, or you need vaccinations not available via the NHS, you can visit a Private Travel Clinic. These clinics charge for their services.

The surgery cannot recommend specific private clinics.

💊 Medication & Prescriptions

The NHS is not responsible for your care once you leave the UK.

If you’re travelling in Europe or selected countries, carry a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC): Apply for GHIC

Regular Prescriptions

  • You can request enough medication to cover your trip
  • Maximum prescription duration is usually 2 months
  • You may carry prescribed medicines abroad, including controlled drugs. You should bring evidence such as your prescription slip from the pharmacy.

Longer Trips

If you’re away for a long time, register with a local doctor for ongoing medication (this may involve a cost).

Note: GPs do not prescribe medication for travel-related issues like travel sickness or diarrhoea, you can get these over the counter from a community pharmacy
